Human CDH1 Gene
Official Full Name: cadherin 1, type 1, E-cadherin (epithelial)
Synonyms: UVO; CDHE; ECAD; LCAM; Arc-1; CD324 Size: 98,317 bases mRNA: 4815 bases The human CDH1 gene encodes for the protein cadherin-1. Cadherin-1 is a specific calcium ion-dependent cell adhesion molecule. Cadherin-1 also is involved in mechanisms regulating mobility and proliferation of epithelial cells. It has a potent invasive suppressor role and is a ligand for integrin alpha-E/beta-7[2]. CDH1 has 16 exons spanning approximately 100 kb of genomic DNA. The gene structure is similar to that of other classical cadherins[3]. |
Location: 16q22.1
The red arrow indicates location of CDH1 on chromosome 16 at position 22.1 from base pair 68,771,194 to base pair 68,869,443 [4].
